Italian Grand Prix Preview

- Felipe Massa will be gunning for his third straight Formula One victory on September 14 when the series drivers hit the Autodromo Nazionale Monza for the Italian Grand Prix.

Massa was awarded the win last weekend in the Belgian Grand Prix after Lewis Hamilton was hit with a 25-second penalty for cutting a corner on the race track. That infraction dropped Hamilton to third place on the day.

Nick Heidfeld finished second in Belgium, with Fernando Alonso, Sebastian Vettel, Robert Kubica, Sebastien Bourdais, and Mark Webber rounding out the day's Top 8 drivers. Heikki Kovalainen had to settle for 10th place, while Kimi Raikkonen crashed and finished 18th.

Hamilton's lead on Massa in the drivers championship is now down to two points (76-74), with Kubica back in third place with 58 points, and Raikkonen in fourth with 57 points. Heidfeld rounds out the standing's current Top 5 - he has 49 points so far this season.

Team Ferrari (Massa and Raikkonen) has a 131-119 lead on Team McLaren-Mercedes (Hamilton and Kovalainen) in the constructors championship. The drivers of BMW Sauber (Kubica and Heidfeld) are in third place in those team standings with 107 points.

Alonso won the Italian Grand Prix last year, beating Hamilton across the finish line by six seconds to take the checkered flag. Raikkonen, Heidfeld, Kubica, Nico Rosberg, Kovalainen, and Jenson Button also picked up points, while Massa had to retire after only 10 laps.

After racing in Italy the drivers of Formula One will head to Asia for the Singapore Grand Prix on September 28. The season's last three races will then be in Japan, China, and Brazil.
